About

A multidisciplinary artist, Cunningham's work focuses on humanity at the intersection of digital and physical, looking at the agency of information held within images and how the digital age has fundamentally affected our phenomenological experience of images and the world.

With a keen interest in language, identity and story telling, Cunningham’s work explores memetics and how ideas are disseminated and conventionalised through images online, how this is impacted by the mechanical and digital reproduction of images, and how the omnipresence of media impacts us as communities of people.

Giving physical form to digital images, Cunningham emphasises the object-hood of my paintings, working in thick impasto oils, painting alla prima, using expressive mark making, attempting to capture the disquiet that digital images hold.

Using absurdity, humour and iteration I hope to tell stories and give worth to a digital language that is constantly evolving and becoming more and more part of everyones everyday lives.
